About Us
David Edgerton III
Founder & Managing Attorney
David Edgerton III is the Founder and Managing Attorney of Edgerton PLLC. He advises individuals, families, founders, businesses, nonprofits, churches, and mission-driven organizations on estate and legacy planning, business law, governance, transactions, organizational risk, select disputes, and long-term planning.
Before founding Edgerton PLLC, David practiced at an Am Law 100 firm in Washington, D.C., where he handled business and commercial litigation, corporate governance, education-related matters, and general counsel services. He also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Reggie B. Walton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
David is a Harry S. Truman Scholar. A proud Double Bison, he earned his J.D. from Howard University School of Law and his B.A. in Political Science from Howard University. His legal education also included work in movement lawyering, which continues to inform his understanding of law as a tool not only for resolving disputes, but for building institutions, protecting communities, and advancing long-term change.
David is also the Founder and Executive Chairman of Brothers in Law, Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to the legal profession through mentorship, professional development, service, and community-building across the legal pipeline.
His approach to practice is also shaped by social engineering: the belief that law, policy, institutions, and intentional design can build durable structures that improve outcomes across generations. He believes lawyers should do more than respond when something goes wrong. Effective counsel should help clients anticipate what is ahead, protect what matters, build strong systems, and make decisions with both the present and future in view.
